Located right off Highway 550, famously known as the Million Dollar Highway, this epic spot is all about those killer mountain views that make you feel like you’re standing on the edge of the world. Expect the unexpected here—it’s not just about the scenery, but capturing real moments between you and your person in a place that feels wild and free. As an Ouray photographer, this is one of my absolute favorite locations for Ouray engagement photos!
I recently photographed two Ouray locals, Libby and Jason, and their love story is just as incredible as the backdrop. Libby is originally from California, but when she moved to Ouray, she ran into Jason, who was just passing through on a cycling trip with his buddies. He never left. Now, they run the Ouray Ice Climbing Park together (how cool is that?!), and Libby is also the go-to hair and makeup stylist in town.
They’re living the dream life, surrounded by these insane views every day, making it the perfect place for their Colorado engagement session.
Epic Mountain Views, No Intense Hiking Required!
The best part about this location? You don’t have to be an experienced hiker to get those “I’m on top of the world” kind of shots.
We parked right off the highway at the Bear Creek Trailhead—easy to find, with a small parking lot right there. Then, we made a short climb up the side of the highway to get to the perfect overlook.
The views are absolutely worth it, and it seriously looks like you’re on a cliff with the entire mountain range spread out in front of you. It’s one of the top spots for Ouray photography, especially during the summer months.

Libby and Jason spent the session relaxing, laughing, and just being themselves while soaking in the view. I love to keep things natural and easygoing, so I gave them just a few prompts and let their chemistry and the epic scenery do the rest.
The whole experience felt effortless, and the result was not only stunning Ouray Colorado pictures, but also photos that captured the genuine connection they share. These kinds of Ouray photos perfectly blend the cinematic beauty of the mountains with real, candid moments.
