It’s where laid-back vibes meet epic adventures, creating the perfect backdrop for a day you’ll never forget. In this blog, I am sharing a glimpse into Landon and Olivia’s Ouray couples photos, the best time to plan an Ouray photoshoot, and things to know before you plan a trip to the Ouray Amphitheater!

Sentimental Couples Photos in Ouray, Colorado with Landon and Olivia

Landon, a Colorado native now living just an hour from Ouray, knew there was no better place to show his fiancée where he grew up. It was more than just a location; it was sharing a piece of his past with the person he loves most.

We spent the day exploring the amphitheater together, with the warm July temps in the 70s and a partly cloudy sky giving us that perfect mix of adventure and ease.

The views were unreal—the kind that stop you in your tracks and remind you why Colorado is so magical. It’s the kind of place where every corner feels like it was made for love stories just like Landon and Olivia’s.

Things to Know to Plan a Successful Engagement Shoot at Ouray’s Amphitheatre

Ouray is a small town located near the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. Known for its cozy, small-town vibe and vibrant summer camping scene, it’s often called the “Switzerland of America” for its stunning mountain views and charm!

Getting There: Head south on State Highway 550 from Ouray for about half a mile. Look for the Amphitheater Campground sign on your left, then turn and follow the road for about a mile to reach the campground.

Operating Hours: June-September for camp season

The Iconic View of Ouray: Drive past the campsites until you get to the ledge that overlooks the town!

Entry Fee: Plan to go during the day to avoid an entrance fee so you can explore to your heart’s content!

Just for Fun: The Amphitheater was formed by a volcanic explosion roughly 37-33 million years ago!!

Best Time to Take Engagement Photos in Ouray

The best time for Ouray couples photos really depends on the vibe you’re after. The Amphitheater is especially magical in July, when rolling clouds add a touch of drama to the sky.

Summer (June through early September)

  • Perfect for Couples: Dreaming of wildflowers, vibrant greenery, and mild, comfortable weather!
  • Pros: The weather is absolutely perfect! With temps in the 70s and those iconic mountain backdrops, summer days in Ouray bring that dreamy golden-hour glow to life.
  • Cons: Summers in Ouray can get busy (and for good reason!). For a more intimate feel, I’d recommend planning your session during the week to avoid the crowds.

Fall (Late September through November)

  • Perfect for Couples: Looking for crisp, cool air, golden aspen trees, and a cozy, romantic feel!
  • Pros: Fall in Ouray is breathtaking, with the mountainsides turning vibrant shades of yellow and orange. The cooler temps and quieter atmosphere make it an ideal time for couples who love the colors of autumn and want a peaceful, intimate session.
  • Cons: The weather can be unpredictable as you get closer to November, and some trails may close as winter approaches.

Winter (December through March)

  • Perfect for Couples: Who love snowy adventures, cozy, fun layers, and winter wonderland vibes!
  • Pros: Ouray in winter is like stepping into a snow globe—blanketed in white, it offers a magical, peaceful backdrop. The Amphitheater feels quiet and untouched, perfect for couples who don’t mind the cold and want an intimate snow-filled engagement session!
  • Cons: Temps can drop into the teens or lower, and access to some locations might be tricky due to snow. But if you’re up for a winter adventure, I’m down to tag along!!

Spring (April through May)

  • Perfect for Couples: Looking for fresh blooms and wildflowers, melting snow, and the start of greenery peeking through the mountainsides.
  • Pros: Spring in Ouray is a beautiful mix of melting snow and fresh wildflowers, creating a gorgeous blend of seasons. The amphitheater feels quiet and refreshed, with mild weather starting to settle in.
  • Cons: Early spring can still be chilly and a bit muddy as the snow melts, so planning later in the season can give you the best of both worlds—fewer crowds and warmer temps!
