I’m Sasha, a self-taught, elopement and wedding photographer in Ouray, CO with a love for dirt roads and mountain air and a flair for style. With my specialties lying in weddings and elopements, I work with my clients to adapt my aesthetic to their unique personalities and situations and capture moments that they feel seen in.
If you’re eloping in Ouray, Colorado, please know this right now: your day does not have to be “just vows and portraits.” It also does not have to be a survival documentary where you hike twelve miles in wedding clothes and pretend your feet aren’t screaming.
Ouray is one of those places where adventure is kind of naturally built into the day already. The mountains are dramatic, the roads are ridiculous, waterfalls are tucked right into town, and the hot springs are waiting when you’re ready to thaw out and be married in peace.
Basically, Ouray makes it stupid easy to turn your elopement into a full experience.
As an Ouray elopement photographer, this is easily one of my favorite things to help couples plan. Not just where we’ll take photos, but what you’ll actually do. The stuff that makes the day feel like a memory instead of a photoshoot with vows in the middle.
So if you’re looking for adventure elopement ideas in Ouray, here are a few ways to make your wedding day feel cinematic, intentional, and actually a good time.

Instead of asking, “What’s the most adventurous thing we can do?” Ask this: “What kind of adventure would actually feel fun for us?”
That’s the whole point.
You want the views, but not the hiking day. Great. Do not force a hike just because the internet made you feel like you had to. Ouray is perfect for this because you can get huuuuuge San Juan Mountain views without making the whole day about mileage. Jeep roads, scenic drives, and pull-offs can give you the big mountain feeling without requiring you to suffer for it.
You still get the wind, the views, the dirt, the movement, the “holy crap we’re really getting married here” feeling.

Honestly, I love this. Your elopement does not have to be a long photoshoot with vows in the middle.
Go get coffee. Walk around town. Take a drive. Eat snacks somewhere pretty. Get dinner after. Soak in the hot springs. Grab pizza in wedding clothes because that is elite behavior.
Not every second has to be epic, some of it can just be normal in the best way.
Ouray is not just big mountain views. You can add in waterfalls, canyon walls, rocky little spots, darker light, movement, and texture. That kind of scenery gives your gallery a totally different feel.
And selfishly, I love that. Because a full elopement gallery should not feel like the same pretty photo 87 times. It should feel like you actually moved through the day.
A little town, mountain views, some water vibes mixed in, and just enough chaos for the perfect adventure elopement in Ouray.
Also valid.
If you want the hike, the Jeep road, the dirt, the wind, the altitude, the slightly feral mountain wedding energy, I am absolutely not stopping you.
I just want us to plan it well enough that it stays fun. Because “full send” does not mean “zero plan, cross your fingers and hope for the best.”
It means we give ourselves enough time, choose locations that make sense, and leave room for the stuff that always happens in the mountains. Weather. Wind. Road delays. Someone needing a snack. Someone needing five minutes to process that they literally just got married.
If you’re bringing family or friends, we just have to think about adventure a little differently.
Not everyone needs to be dragged down a sketchy trail in formalwear. Unless Grandma specifically requested that, in which case, honestly, respect.
But most of the time, guest-friendly elopements work best when we keep the ceremony accessible and then build in time for just the two of you after.
Ceremony with your people, mountain adventure after. Best of both worlds.
And suddenly the day is packed tighter than a family vacation itinerary made by someone’s dad with a spreadsheet.
Please don’t do that to yourself. Pick the things you actually care about. Not the things that sound impressive, things another couple did, or the things Pinterest told you would be cute.
Start here instead. Ask yourselves:
There is no wrong answer. That’s the point of eloping, and this is where I come in!
You do not need to know every location in Ouray or have the perfect timeline figured out before you reach out.
That’s literally part of my job. & Plus, this area is my second home – I know quite literally the ins and outs of all of the best hidden gems with a few of those iconic touristy-spots mixed in.
I’ll help you figure out what makes sense for the season, the light, the roads, the amount of hiking you actually want to do, whether guests are coming, and how to make the whole day feel fun instead of chaotic.

Perfect. We can figure that out together.
Bring me your half-formed ideas, your “we know we want mountains but that’s about it,” your “we want adventure but not misery,” and your “can we end the day in hot springs?” thoughts.
I’ll help you turn it into a day that makes sense.
Psst. Want a more specific list of what you can actually do here? I made a whole guide to elopement activities in Ouray that aren’t just hiking.
