If you’re dreaming of a relaxed, scenic spot to capture your love story, an engagement shoot at the Ouray Amphitheater might be your perfect match! Tucked right in the heart of the mountains, this place is all about breathtaking views and that charming small-town feel that makes Ouray such a hidden gem for romantic engagement photos in the San Juan’s! It’s where laid-back vibes meet epic adventures, creating the perfect backdrop for a day you’ll never forget. In this blog, I am sharing a glimpse into Landon and Olivia’s Ouray couples photos, the best time to plan an Ouray photoshoot, and things to know before you plan a trip to the Ouray Amphitheater!
Landon, a Colorado native now living just an hour from Ouray, knew there was no better place to show his fiancée where he grew up. It was more than just a location; it was sharing a piece of his past with the person he loves most.
We spent the day exploring the amphitheater together, with the warm July temps in the 70s and a partly cloudy sky giving us that perfect mix of adventure and ease.
The views were unreal—the kind that stop you in your tracks and remind you why Colorado is so magical. It’s the kind of place where every corner feels like it was made for love stories just like Landon and Olivia’s.
Ouray is a small town located near the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. Known for its cozy, small-town vibe and vibrant summer camping scene, it’s often called the “Switzerland of America” for its stunning mountain views and charm!
Getting There: Head south on State Highway 550 from Ouray for about half a mile. Look for the Amphitheater Campground sign on your left, then turn and follow the road for about a mile to reach the campground.
Operating Hours: June-September for camp season
The Iconic View of Ouray: Drive past the campsites until you get to the ledge that overlooks the town!
Entry Fee: Plan to go during the day to avoid an entrance fee so you can explore to your heart’s content!
Just for Fun: The Amphitheater was formed by a volcanic explosion roughly 37-33 million years ago!!
The best time for Ouray couples photos really depends on the vibe you’re after. The Amphitheater is especially magical in July, when rolling clouds add a touch of drama to the sky.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through, the magic of this spot will take your breath away! With jaw-dropping views, easy access, and endless opportunities for epic photos, Ouray is a place that feels like it was made for love stories. For couples craving something different, something wild and beautiful, this is where you go to embrace an unforgettable, unconventional experience. Every corner of Ouray has that unexpected wow factor, the kind that leaves you in awe every single time you visit.
